The Cochin Cancer Society (CCS) is a group of compassionate and empathetic people with a common goal to support cancer patients across Kerala.
CCS is a charitable society registered under the Travancore-Cochin Library, Scientific and Charitable Societies registration act.
Founded by Dr. V.P. Gangadharan & the late Dr. Cherian Jacob in 2004,
we have progressively worked towards making cancer awareness, early detection, and access to treatment, attainable to cancer patients and their caregivers.
At Cochin Cancer Society, we are dedicated to providing support and assistance to individuals and families affected by cancer. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for patients and their caregivers, promote cancer education, and create a nurturing environment for those in need. Through various initiatives and programs, we strive to make a positive impact on the lives of cancer patients and their communities.
We understand the financial burden that cancer treatment can impose on individuals and families. To ease this burden, we provide grants to financially needy patients, helping them cover their treatment costs. Our aim is to ensure that no one is denied access to life-saving treatment due to financial constraints.
We offer a free homestay facility to patients and their caregivers who travel from distant places to receive treatment. Our homestay provides a comfortable and supportive environment, along with nutritious meals and transportation assistance, easing the stress of being away from home during treatment.
We believe that awareness is key in the fight against cancer. Through talks, seminars, and interactive sessions, we educate the public, including students in schools and colleges, about cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. By spreading knowledge, we empower individuals to take proactive steps towards cancer prevention and early intervention.
To address the rising incidence of breast cancer among women, we conduct mobile thermomammogram camps. These camps use advanced technology to screen for breast cancer in a non-invasive manner. By reaching out to communities and offering early detection services, we aim to catch cancer at its earliest stages, improving treatment outcomes and saving lives.
We understand the emotional and psychological challenges that cancer patients and their caregivers face throughout their journey. To provide comprehensive support, we offer pre and post-treatment counseling services. Our experienced counselors provide guidance, emotional support, and coping strategies to help individuals navigate the challenges of cancer and its aftermath.
We organize programs like Kalikkootam and Communion, which serve as platforms for children and adults affected by cancer to share their success stories and experiences. By sharing their journeys and victories, participants gain confidence, inspire others, and create a sense of community and hope. These programs aim to foster resilience, strength, and optimism among those touched by cancer.
" Myths and stigma arise from ignorance about cancer, which is surprisingly increasing even among the educated population. Cancer incidences are rising due to the shifting lifestyle, food habits, use of alcohol and tobacco, environmental pollution, and many more.
Hence the most important and critical necessity is cancer awareness and early detection. Knowledge is the light that will help you fight the darkness of cancer. There is no need to fear cancer as 30-35% of cancers are completely curable if detected early.
