Cochin Cancer Society (C.C.S) is a charitable society registered under the Travancore-Cochin Library, Scientific and Charitable Societies registration Act, incorporated in the year 2004 when a few like-minded people joined hands to help poor patients. The main architects of the society are Dr. V.P.Gangandharan and late Dr. Cherian Jacob.
The specialty of the society is that its members are either affected by cancer, have close relatives affected by cancer and doctors who look after cancer patients. Some of the prime objectives of CCS are to support poorer section of society impacted by cancer, to educate public about cancer and conduct camps for early detection among women.
Welcare Hospital is the partnering hospital of CCS where needy patients are treated at subsided rates and C.C.S bears the balance treatment cost. This has been of great help to the families of the affected patients. C.C.S also provides free home stay facility, food and transport support to needy patients.
The main source of funds to the society is by way of contributions from well-wishers. Cancer Patients and their relatives have made valuable contributions. Reputed corporates like T.C.S, TransAsia have been contributing amounts to C.C.S as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The society is registered under u/s 80G of the Income Tax Act and the contributors get income tax benefits on contribution to the trust.
